Outside the window, the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the parking lot. A lone robin perched on the edge of the roof, its melodic chirps a stark contrast to the sterile silence within. Ashley barely noticed, her attention focused solely on her work and the achy emptiness that gnawed at her insides. She let out a small sigh, her breath hitching slightly in her throat as a twinge of fatigue swept through her. Ashley pushed back from the desk, rubbing at the tired muscles in her neck and shoulders. Her stomach growled, reminding her that she'd skipped lunch again in favor of completing her tasks.
